The electric vehicle brand Aletra aims for its product, the L8, to reach a Local Content Requirement (TKDN) of 60 percent by 2030. It should be noted that the current level stands at 44 percent. Interestingly, Aletra explained that TKDN encompasses not only parts but also factory activities.
“A full investment usually involves building a factory. We are focusing more on activities,” said Joko Purwanto, Technical Director of Aletra, when met in Purwakarta recently.
He continued that at PT Handal Motor Indonesia (HIM), Aletra is increasing its TKDN through local assembly activities supported by a domestic workforce.
“(The 40 percent TKDN) comes from activities at Handal. There is R&D (Research and Development), and the Aletra brand’s IPR (Intellectual Property Rights),” said Joko. To reach the 60 percent mark within the next four years, he stated that there will be more procedures for battery processing or assembly at the factory.
As of 2027, the manufacturer aims to increase production volume to 3,000 units of the L8 EV with Completely Knocked Down (CKD) status. For the time being, Joko emphasized that Aletra is 100 percent supported by an Indonesian workforce. This contributes to the L8 EV’s TKDN.
Until now, the components for the Aletra L8 EV electric car are still imported from its country of origin. It is not yet known whether Aletra will partner with local suppliers or component providers.
For information, the Aletra L8 EV began local assembly at the PT HIM facility in May 2025, a few months after its debut at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) 2024. The Aletra L8 was originally born as the Geely Livan Maple in China, featuring a left-hand drive configuration. Aletra Indonesia reportedly conducted independent development to adapt the L8 EV into a right-hand drive version.
The models assembled in Indonesia are planned to be exported to other countries that also use right-hand drive. There are two variants of the Aletra L8 EV offered to customers: the Short Range with a 50.4 kWh battery, and the Long Range with 64.7 kWh. The price of the Aletra L8 EV at its debut was in the range of IDR 415 million, applicable for the first 200 Vehicle Order Letters (SPK) at the GJAW 2024 event.
